Traditionally, the Mayans are known as the people of the corn. Corn was the staple crop for thousands of years, it was responsible for their survival, and a cornerstone to their way of life. They even have a creation myth about the first people being created from corn. But while the Mayans were the first to embrace this food, it is now the industrialized cultures that have become the people of the corn through its sheer volume and saturation of different markets. F1 hybrid corn is in the meat we eat, as most factory farms feed their animals corn, as well as all the processed foods that use HFCS, and many of the "crunchy salty" snacks on our grocers shelves. It is used in the manufacturing of textiles, and used to produce ethanol that can be found in gasoline, industrial solvents, and alcoholic beverages. Also, this government subsidized crop now takes up 80 million acres of farm land in the United States alone. So now our land and our bodies in the industrialized cultures are being filled with corn, making it the true king of crops.
