Poison oak trail 16”x12” Oil on canvas

This is a scene from one of my favorite trail runs at one of my favorite places on Earth, Garzas tr. in Garland Park. On my way back down the hill after I took this reference photo, I ran past the remains of a Cougar kill. It was only the front leg of a fawn, but it was enough to slow me down and put all my senses on high alert. I love it there, and I still run those trails. I keep one eye on the tree tops. I certainly hope I never have an encounter, but we all have to go some way, and I would consider it an honorable death if I end as Cougar food.
