Howdy!

I am a life long compulsive decorator and fine art painter who started creating on canvas in 2004. I averaged about a painting per year until 2015 when I decided to spend less time and energy on my day job. My main focus now is painting and taking care of my two sons, wife and home in Portland, OR.

Currently, my favorite media includes oil and gouache on paper, canvas and wood. I’m best known for my imaginative and colorful intimate portraits of flora and fauna. The painting subjects are created in a realistic style and placed in loose, vibrant, and imagined environments. My work has appeared in several juried group shows across the U.S., and my first solo show “Progression of the North American Diet” was at MHAA: Salvador Dali in December 2019.

The goal of my work is to create images that are pleasant to look at. So many of our internal worlds are full of anxieties, and I hope to offer a reprieve from this tension for the viewer. I’m inspired to create by the idea that we all need to be creative with our own personal myths in order to enrich and define our lives through the stories we each carry. Our world is an infinitely mysterious and beautiful place. These qualities are especially abundant in Monterey, CA where I was born and raised. I’ve always had a connection with nature and the wild world. Now my wife, two wild boys and I are creating new chapters in this world. When I’m not painting, I’m tending to the home and school needs of my boys. I also enjoy trail running, hiking, foraging and fishing with my family.
